Culture Night 2012

WCAC, in association with West Cork Philosophical Society and Astronomy Ireland, is delighted to invite you to

The God Particle: Current Developments at CERN

A Culture Night Screening and Discussion
at West Cork Arts Centre on Friday 21 September at 8.00pm

The screening is one hour long and will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Anne Crossey, founder of West Cork Philosophical Society.

Admission Free. All Welcome.

CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, based in Geneva, is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. The team at CERN recently announced they had found a particle in the search for the Higgs Boson or so-called ‘God’ particle – which could help shed light on the mysteries of the Earth’s creation.

Professor Rolf Heuer, Director General of CERN, was in Ireland at the time of this announcement, at the invitation of Astronomy Ireland to give a lecture to its members and the public.

In the lecture, Prof Heuer takes the audience through the basics of particle physics and the applications of the Hadron Collider to the implications of the latest ‘God’ particle findings and the future of physics.

Astronomy Ireland filmed Prof Heuer’s lecture and West Cork Philosophical Society and WCAC are delighted to present it on Culture Night 2012.
