Choowawaa, WCAC's annual Arts Event for Children and Exhibition took place from
20 March to 7 April this year.
Exhibitions and events this year included:
Lost
WCAC’s annual exhibition of artwork by West Cork primary school children. The children explored their own ideas in relation to the theme Lost, after visiting the exhibition Mesh by Anita Groener in Autumn 2009 as part of the Primary Schools programme.
Discovery Box
Discovery Box is a resource for children to use with their parents in the gallery to encourage engagement with the artwork. Inside were materials and instructions guiding through some of the ideas explored by the exhibiting pupils.
Sarah O’Brien, Artist in Residence
All were welcome to visit artist in residence, Sarah O’Brien to engage in the artist’s work practices and get involved in the development of new work especially for the event. Sarah explained her processes and showed how her ideas develop.
During her residency Sarah worked with paper construction, string, cardboard, lighting and drawing, exploring and exploding into the gallery space to achieve a greater engagement with the environment. Through dialogue with young gallery visitors and workshops with children of all ages, a collaborative piece evolved in the gallery space.
An Cat 'is an Dreoilín, Paul Ó Colmáin
