Choowawaa!: Arts Event for Children

Choowawaa, WCAC's annual Arts Event for Children and Exhibition took place from
24 March – 14 April 2012.

CHOOWAWAA! has a superb programme of events on offer each year for youngsters aged from 2 to 12 years. See below for a taste of Choowawaa! 2012.

This year’s programme featured Walking Man, an exciting performance designed especially for children by Graffiti Theatre Company; the launch of the Storytelling Chair a schools project with artist Alison Ospina at Skibbereen Library; Discovery Box, an adventurous gallery resource for parents and carers to use with their young children in the gallery created by artist Sarah Ruttle; an array of workshops including constellation installation, fantasy paper sculpture and creative characters, visual art and dance exploration.

There was also an exhibition of artwork created by children during WCAC's Art Club and central to the Choowawaa! Children’s Art Event programme was an exhibition, Points of View, which featured work created by children in primary schools from across West Cork in response to the exhibition Free-Fall by Amy Walsh. The schools worked with artists Alison Cronin and Tess Leak to develop projects exploring movement, landscape and alternative viewpoints, using animation, sculpture, and print.
