Regions – a series of A Sense of West Cork foyer exhibitions
Uillinn; West Cork Arts Centre is seeking affordable artwork for a new series of showcase exhibitions in our foyer space. Regions will give local artists from across our catchment area, at all stages of their career, an opportunity to showcase their work in seven instalments each four weeks in duration and each focusing on a particular region. West Cork Arts Centre covers the Skibbereen and Bantry urban and rural area which stretches from the Beara Peninsula in the west, to Clonakilty in the east, from Dunmanway in the north, to the islands of Cape Clear and Sherkin in the south. Submissions are open to any artists living or working within the region.
The foyer space is a retail space that focuses on affordable artwork and aims to support local artists to showcase and hopefully sell their work. For each showcase we will be able to accommodate approximately 6 – 9 artworks, framed, or on canvas, and ready to hang, and small 3 dimensional works. Alongside this we are also interested in stocking unframed, mounted original works or prints, and artists cards, from artists in that region with a view to broadening the range of artists we stock in our foyer on a regular basis, as part of our A Sense of West Cork initiative.
This call out is for artists from Baltimore and the Islands, we will be issuing call outs on a regular basis throughout the summer for each of the regions as the submission date approaches. See below for a schedule of the regions and dates for your information. Each artist can use their own discretion as to which region they fall into if they should live in an area that lies between two specified regions.
One artwork from each regional showcase will be selected to include in a pack of West Cork Arts Centre Edition blank greetings cards printed to commemorate the project. Proceeds of the sale of the cards will go to West Cork Arts Centre. Promotional information on the artist will be included on the back of the card featuring their artwork to increase interest in their work, and a feature page on our website will provide further opportunities for promotion of the work.
