Here at Uillinn we invite you to join our artists in residence in exploring a free approach to drawing using mixed media, found materials and experimentation with scale, abstract composition, tonal values, and texture. Using a variety of tools, including flotsam to create marks through rubbings, stencils and direct impressions with mixed media.

Maritime is a collective of Caroline BOYFIELD and Laure COLOMER, two emerging artists from Britany, travelling to Cork County for residencies at Sirius Arts Centres, Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre Studios and while here in Cork, connecting with artists from Sample Studios in Cork throughout May 2024.

Inspired symbolically by the 'boat' as an insular closed space, which exists between two places and is closed in on itself, whilst at the same time given over to the infinity of the sea. The artists intent for the residency is to investigate new ways of thinking about the interaction between visual and written language and the landscape and culture of Ireland, in making connections between the landscapes of both countries, economic migration of its people and the Breton and Irish languages, poetry and myths.

#NationalDrawingDay is an annual celebration of drawing and creativity, this National Gallery of Ireland initiative is co-hosted by dozens of partner venues around the island of Ireland.
