Water Broadcasting Secret Stations
Sunday 28 July
2.30 pm to 5.30 pm
Meet Outside Uillinn on the bridge

Free but booking is essential as places are limited to 12 participants who must be over 16. Book through the Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre.

The IoD (Institute of Dwelling) art project invites you to join a choreographed Water Divining and Mapping workshop.

Participants will use their body as an antenna, tuning into the earths invisible forces using metal divining rods, hazel rods and pendulums. The workshop will be taking place in a central location. We will be mapping our findings through mark making using chalk and charcoal directly onto the ground. This mapping will be displayed afterwards.

Water divining delves into the Irish underlay, the diviner walks carrying a rod in order to channel a transmission or current from below ground level. In Seamus Heaney’s words, this act of speculation seeks out ‘water suddenly broadcasting through a green aerial its secret station’.

In this work marginal embodied ways of experiencing the world re-emerge to open up playful and curious entry points to fuel the social imaginary.
