During this residency I will investigate further a project I am developing The people’s shed building on linking communities of people interested in making. My work explores how a community's social fabric can be discussed, honored and fostered through collective skill sharing.

The people’s shed is a maker space for artists and non artists to share skills and knowledge on making. As a way of engaging with others to explore this I will build a chair to seat two persons with the intention that this built structure be the space to hold conversations about making. Some of these conversations will be recorded and included in an archive I am developing.

I will invite makers of the area to come and talk to contribute to this developing archive about making. Through this archive I am collecting terms we use in making with artists and non artists, noting the language we use to describe the skills and techniques of the maker.

I am a multidisciplinary artist currently developing The People’s Shed at studio 468 as part of Common Grounds - A radical Imagination community based residency in Dublin 8. My practice explores how a community’s social fabric can be discussed, honored and fostered through collective skill sharing.

I completed a BA in Fine Art Painting at Limerick School of Art and Design/ a Hdip in Art and Design Teaching at Crawford College of Art and Design and an MA in Fine Art from Liverpool John Moores University. In Liverpool I co- founded an artist and art education cooperative (Quad Collective CIC) where we led workshops on behalf of Tate Liverpool (Liverpool, UK), Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool, UK) and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, Spain). I also took part in socially engaged projects there including ASSEMBLES Granby Workshop at Granby Four Streets.. I spent a year in Sweden where the Nordic pedagogical practices have had an influence on my thinking and practice. In 2019 I took part as a participating artist with Heart of Glass (UK) ‘Rupture’ coaching programme facilitated by Sarah Bailey. I spent 2020 engaging the communities of A4Sounds Studios as part of A4Sounds Studios public programme 2020 ‘We only want the earth’. In 2021 I was artist in residence at UCD’s Parity Studios at the College of Social Science and Law.
