Mihaela Griveva: Dark Matter #2
20 August– 1 September 2018

During her two week residency at Uillinn, Mihaela Griveva will research and develop the production values of her current work practices. Mihaela will continue the development of her solo work Dark Matter to be performed in early January in Grenoble, France. This new work blurs the physical and metaphysical theme of 'dark matter'. As she researches the polarities of which this subject consists, she is also delveing into the theme of the duality of human experience.

Dark matter is a mysterious substance composing most of the material universe, now widely thought to be some form of massive exotic particle. An intriguing alternative view is that dark matter is made of black holes formed during the first second of our universe's existence, known as primordial black holes.

Mihaela Griveva investigates innovation in contemporary dance, seeking ways to make it more appealing to a broader audience is integral to her practice. She believes this is possible by inviting the audience into the process and increasing collaboration from different disciplines. Contacts and interests outside of dance have also allowed Mihaela to develop skills that complement her career. They help her promote her work, devise workshops and create new opportunities to interest others in dance.

The core of Mihaela’s practice is the pure joy of movement, both in its simplicity and complexity. Based on that, her interest in Gaga Movement Language has further extended her understanding of body-mind connection and influenced her work. For the past couple of years she has focused exclusively on developing her own creative practice and teaching approach. Through this Mihaela discovered that her creativity is driven by the authenticity of the people she meets. Students, dancers, collaborators are all part of the process. She has also collaborated with photographers, musicians and videographers.

Mihaela invites our local community to join in one of her Freeflow Warm Up Sessions on Saturday 25 August at 11.00am. Participants will be guided through series of exercises to strengthen the body and increase flexibility - knowledge they will be able to take away and use every day.

Mihaela Griveva is a choreographer, teacher, dancer and entrepreneur. She holds a Masters in Contemporary Dance Performance from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. Mihaela has extensively travelled through Europe and Asia studying with some of the most preeminent contemporary choreographers. As a result she has developed workshops individually tailored to the specific needs of professional dancers and also people who just like to move! Mihaela's passion for teaching and helping students reach their full potential inspired her to develop the Beyond Technique workshop which focuses on improving performance skills for professionals. Her desire to find new ways to make dance accessible to all led to the development of The Joy Of Dance - dance classes based on finding pleasure and fun in movement.

Alongside developing her dance career, Mihaela is the founder and editor of www.dancingopportunities.com, an international website promoting opportunities for dancers. To learn more about her work, visit www.mihaelagriveva.com.
