In collaboration with West Cork Chamber Music Festival, and as part of Luke Murphy Dance Artist in Residence, Uillinn commissioned Kevin Coquelard to explore the relationship between music and dance. Kevin chose to work with musicians, Kate Ellis and Caihim Gilmore and in this conversation with Luke, Kevin unpicks the process that took place and explores future possibilities.

'With the help of two musicians, Kate Ellis and Caihim Gilmore, I explored the relation between movement and sound. Which I think is even more interconnected through music and dance that we think (the inner music that the dancer follow to create movement or the movement musician makes to create music.)'

Kévin began dance and theatre in France. In 2008, he entered the Conservatoire de Paris where he danced in choreographies by Hofesh Schecter and Itzik Galili. Kévin made his Irish debut with John Scott in 2013, performing in widely including in New York, Paris and the Abbey Theatre. He has also performed for Philip Connaughton, Catherine Young, Liz Roche Company and Maria Nilsson Waller. He made his first solo, “Le somnanbule” which won the Public’s Final Choice Award and the 2nd Prize of Dance in the Solo Tanz Festival in Stuttgart in 2018. Works with Liz Roche Company include Wrongheaded, Time Over Distance Over Time (Australian tour),  Bastard Amber (France), Pilgrimage, I/Thou, Demos, Naher… closer, nearer, sooner.
