Artists' Residency Programme
UCC & Bollinger Family Space: Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín

Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín is a dance artist based in Cork, Ireland.  Her primary focus is on place-based and site-specific work manifesting in film and live performance. She seeks to question how the human body engages with the Earth in a way that gives agency to both. 

While in residence Siobhán will focus on developing improvisatory methods to explore the embodiment of Gaolainn/Irish inspired by the richness of both contemporary and historical texts. She will gather and explore words that express the sensual and sensorial experiences of the body.  Siobhán’sinvestigations will include a focus on the physical sensation of these words and the sounding of words in playful ways as inspiration for movement.

Siobhán enjoys collaborative and multi-disciplinary work and has created alongside poets, actors, singers, geologists, boat-builders and musicians. She has also worked with a range of community groups with a special focus on primary school aged children. 

Siobhán trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (UK) and subsequently completed a Masters in Contemporary Dance Performance, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance graduating in 2012.  She has performed with John Jasperse & Liz Roche (Step Up Dance Programme), Jessie Keenan, Junk Ensemble, Laura Murphy and Mary Wycherley. Siobhán was also amember of Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company performing works by Fearghus Ó Conchúir and David Bolger. 

In 2018 Siobhán was nominated by EVA International to participate in Magic Carpets, a Creative Europe residency programme for emerging artists and curators. She spent a month in Folkestone,UK researching and making work based on the connection people have with Folkestone Warren, a unique part of the Kent coastline. Her work has been shown at Salt Festival of the Sea and Environment (UK), Ullapool Dance Festival (SCT), EchoEcho Festival of Dance and Movement, What Next Festival, Tipperary Dance Platform and Firkin Crane amongst others. Siobhán was Rinceoir Cónaitheach, Ionad Cultúrtha, Baile Mhúirne Co Chorcaí 2018-2020 funded by Arts Council,Cork County Council, Ealaín na Gaeltachta andkindly supported by Ionad Cultúrtha.  She is a recipient of the Arts Council’s Next Generation Award (2018).
